Sheet Metal Bending - Various Processes And How It Operates
by Chris on February 15, 2010
We are surrounded by articles that are products of a process known as sheet metal bending. Most of us are not aware of what it is and how it works. If you look at the things inside your homes, I bet at least a couple of them are bending finished products. If you go out and look at your environment, the buildings and places of residence that you pass by also use the goods developed by this method.
When we talk about sheet metal bending, we basically refer to the process that transforms a sheet metal into a differently-shaped object. It could get the structure of a letter U, V or any other channel shape.
Bending is classified into three standard types:
1. Coining
This is the most basic sheet metal bending type used by engineers and metalworkers. It requires a few materials such as die and punch. It is generally viewed as precision stamping because of the very detailed and mindful attitude you have to have in order to create a finished product that is of high quality.
Coining, which is type of cold working process, is utilized in the manufacture of coins. These kind of coins are small, but if you look closely, you would see the very good drawings and texts on them. Badges, medals and buttons are some of the other commodities created through this method.
2. Air bending
This is performed by allowing the punch and the workpiece touch but not too low as to strike the bottom. Once you ease the punch, the workpiece ends up with not that much of a bent. This is because of a thing called spring-back, which is usually between 5 and 10 degrees.
3. Bottom bending
This unique form of sheet metal bending has a few similar characteristics with coining and air bending. In this process, the punch pushes the workpiece down until it touches the bottom of the die. This movement will produce a minimum spring-back position.
There are several types of tools and equipment used when carrying out this operation. The most popular of them all are the machine presses, bending brakes, and brake presses. These devices come in various shapes, sizes, and prices. Expect to see some of them to be equipped with the simplest features that are perfect for simple and basic sheet metal bending operation. However, those that possess high-end, complex and modern features are also available for sale to large industries and workshops that require huge volumes of products manufactured in a certain period of time.
Knowing A Little Bit More About Functions Of Graphite Lubricant: Ideal Lubricant To Reduce Friction In Different Purposes
Graphite is a form of carbon, which is silvery black in colour. Graphite is one of the predominant materials used as solid lubricant. The lamellar structure of graphite (the tendency to flake), in the form of dry powder, makes it ideal to reduce friction
Understand Various Types Of Undergoing Sheet Metal Forming
The process of sheet metal forming is one of the most fundamental methods used in the whole metalworking procedure. It is widely used and often costly.
Glass A Great Forging Lubricant: An Operational Substance Used To Built Complicated Structures Perfectly
Forging is a method used to alter the physical properties of a metal or an alloy thereof. With the use of suitable compressive force and adequate temperature, a metal may be given a desired shape. Forging is often divided into the cold forging, hot forging according to the temperatures applied on glasses.
Metal Bending: A Wonderful Cost Efficient Method To Repair Your Home Damages

Applying Enamels For Glass In The Correct Way
Stained glass is probably what you refer as traditional painting. This is probably the most common way of painting when using glass, is to use stained glass. Another unique way of painting is using enamels for glass.
How To Utilize Lead Free Enamel To Your Advantage
The process of enameling begins with adding glass powder substances to different materials, such as metals. A common mixture for enamel is to use lead bases that create a more defined texture and which are easier to use for artisans.
